The Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET) is an accrediting agency officially recognized by the US Department of Education. ACCET provides institutional accreditation for educational institutions and organizations providing continuing education programs. Accreditation means the ACCET Accrediting Commission evaluates the qualifications and standards of educational institutions that apply for accreditation and, if the institution is found to meet those standards, ACCET then gives public recognition to that institution. In the realm of ESL training, some of the institutions that are eligible for ACCET accreditation include private career schools, religious organizations, public affairs and cultural societies, and social service and volunteer organizations. ACCET also specifically accredits Intensive English Programs (IEPs), and has been for over 25 years.
