ESL FOR AVIATION
English for Aviation ESL programs provide language training for international students studying aviation in the USA. This includes students studying to become pilots, air traffic controllers, and aviation mechanics. English for Aviation is one of what's known as ESL for specific purposes: in this case, the purpose is to help improve international students' knowledge of basic English fluency and specialized aviation terminology. These programs offer training in aviation vocabulary, reading comprehension of technical documents, and pronunciation, all designed specifically for this specialized industry. In addition, students taking English for Aviation programs hone their basic communication skills with emphasis on listening and speaking. Such skills are essential, since the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has decreed that all Air Traffic Controllers and Flight Crew Members (including pilots) engaged with international flights must be proficient in spoken English in general, not just know the specialty aviation phrases. In fact, English for Aviation programs can help international students prepare for, and pass, the TEA (Test of English for Aviation).
